City of Boise: Facility Trends White Paper

POLICY

In September 2016, AMS was engaged by the City of Boise Department of Arts & History to assist in gaining industry intelligence and collating research as they engaged in master planning for a new library and potential performing arts facility in the cultural district downtown.

AMS researched broad, national industry trends, based on our understanding and experience with cities around the country; highlighted exemplars, interviewing each venue to identify keys to success and lessons learned, constructed case studies, and; researched recently developed alternative performance spaces providing additional exemplars, as relevant.

The project culminated in a presentation to key City staff and stakeholders within the Boise community and provided an overview of the evolution of the performing arts center, outlined criteria to define success, cited pertinent trends and illustrated exemplar venues, and identified drivers for vision and cost.

AMS was subsequently engaged by the City of Boise in continuing their work to evaluate the need for a flexible community-based performing arts facility in the downtown district.
