Ava Lockamy

As a cum laude graduate of North Carolina Central University (NCCU), Ava is dedicated and accomplished, with a passion for music and business. With over a decade of experience as a violinist, she has honed her talent through years of practice and performance, demonstrating a deep commitment to artistic expression. Ava has also shared her expertise with the next generation by teaching violin to children, fostering a love for music and mentorship skills in young learners.

Complementing her musical pursuits, Ava holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. This academic achievement reflects her strategic mindset and leadership capabilities, cultivated through rigorous coursework and practical experience. With a solid foundation in business principles, Ava is poised to combine her passion for music with her expertise in management, leveraging her skills to make a meaningful impact in both the artistic and corporate spheres.

What drew you to the arts? 

The arts have always played an important role in my life and is fundamental in human expression and cultural identity. Being able to engage with the arts has fostered cross cultural understanding, empathy, and enriches my ability to collaborate with people around the world.

What drew you to Arts Administration? 

I was drawn to Arts Administration due to its blend of creativity and business insight. Furthermore, I am inspired by the role that art institutions play in enriching
communities and cultural engagement. I see an opportunity to help arts organizations thrive in a changing environment with corporate experience.

What is your focus within Arts Administration? 

My focus within Arts Administration is to assess current strengths and challenges, develop thorough strategic plans, and identify growth opportunities for
short and long-term goals. Additionally, collaboration and partnerships within the arts to advance the mission and impacts for organizations is a strength I recognize and to which I would like to contribute. Lastly, leveraging technology and data analytics to help organizations better understand their audiences, and create programs to meet their needs.  

How do you incorporate EDIA into your work life? 

I incorporate EDIA into my work life by fostering a culture of empathy, open-mindedness, and respect for all. There are diverse perspectives and voices that should be heard throughout the work day to make sure everyone feels valued and empowered.

What do you do in your spare time? 

In my spare time I enjoying trying new vegan foods and cooking. Additionally, I find fun in going to concerts and music festivals. Lastly, I find pleasure in a satisfying self-care day full of face mask, manicures/pedicures, and a superb massage.
